Jacqueline Lee Bouvier was born in 1929. She was her father’s favorite child and he praised her often.  A bright student, Jackie spoke four languages.  However, in elementary school, she often misbehaved out of boredom.

The marriage of her parents was strained by the father’s drinking and affairs.  They also struggled financially after the Wall Street Crash.  Their marriage did not survive and their troubles were detailed in the press.

When their mother married the Standard Oil heir.  Although she retained a relationship with her father, Jacqueline Bouvier saw her stepfather as a paternal figure as well.  Her stepfather was able to give her a childhood and a privileged lifestyle she would not have otherwise had.

Jackie managed to carry on in spite of her feelings.  She attended college, married John F. Kennedy, and became the first lady of the United States.  Two of her children died either before or shortly after birth.  John was assassinated. And her second husband, died within the first seven years of marriage.  Yet, she is remembered for her beauty and poise.
