As a child, Elvis was so shy, he wouldn’t sing.  At some point, he powered through.

We know the man.  We know his rise to fame.  The controversy of his shaking hips.  And musical sound.   The women.  The booze.  The pills.

What I didn’t know until I saw the movie, and perhaps you didn’t either, was that Elvis never toured Europe.  Or anywhere other than the US for that matter.  The most famous man in the world never left the US to tour, except for his time in the military.  His manager didn’t have a passport and was afraid of not being allowed to return to the US.  He was afraid of losing control of Elvis as well.  According to the movie, Elvis was unaware of the reason for several years.  When he learned why , it broke his heart.  Needless to say, his manager was not a good guy.

On the flip side, his manager promoted the heck out of Elvis and was the engine behind his success.  He had Elvis making money on all things pro-Elvis.  Just as one would.  However, his manager had him making money on all things anti-Elvis, too.  He received money on I HATE ElVIS buttons and magnets, etc.  Genius.

These two revelations during the movie made me think.  Know your worth.  Know who you are.  Know what you have to offer.  Trust but verify.  We all need help but never let them have control.  No one will ever have your back like you.

“Do something worth remembering.” – Elvis
