When Chief Flying Hawk didn’t win on the battle field, he became an educator to keep his culture alive.  He found another way.

Trying to preserve his way of life, Chief Flying Hawk was an Oglala Lakota Warrior who fought in Red Cloud’s war and in nearly all the battles with the US Army.  He fought alongside Crazy Horse in the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876.  He also fought in the Wounded Knee Massacre and was by Crazy Horse’s side when he passed away.

After all battles were fought and done, Chief Flying Hawk went on the join Wild Bill’s Wild West Show hoping to educate people on the Lakota traditions and culture.  Chief Flying Hawk believed education was key to the preservation of his way of life.  He traveled throughout the US and Europe for over 30 years with the Wild West Show.
