In 1941, Bob Dylan was born. By the time he was in high school, he had formed several bands. He did go on to college but dropped out at the end of his freshman year. A few months later, Dylan traveled to New York City to perform. While there, he visited his musical idol, Woody Guthrie, who was seriously ill.
Dylan stayed in New York City performing in clubs around Greenwich Village. By August of 1962, Dylan changed his name to Bob Dylan and signed a management contract with Albert Grossman who remained his manager until 1970.

Nonetheless, Dylan has sold more than 145 million records and received numerous awards: Presidential Medal of Freedom, ten Grammies, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
